February 2010
Sarah Stevenson
Sarah Stevenson kindly tells us what she's been up to recently and how it may benefit you.
Taekwondo365: We didn't see you fighting at the National Championships this year Sarah, why was that?
Sarah: Well I've had a really busy winter getting ready for the 2010 season and there are quite a few tournaments in the Spring, and I'm also going to the Junior Worlds in Mexico with the Junior team, and I've also been setting up my new company, Sarah Stevenson Inspires Limited which will include an Excellence Tour throughout the Summer.
Taekwondo365: So what's the new business all about?
Sarah: It's about helping other people to be better at whatever they're trying to achieve and I've been very fortunate in recent years to have been given a lot of support and advice from a variety of people and although I'm very much committed to winning the 2012 Olympics, I want to be able to start giving something back before I retire, not that I'm thinking of retiring!
Taekwondo365: So what is the Excellence Tour?
Sarah: The Excellence Tour gives up and coming taekwondo players the opportunity to attend three 5 hour training camps thoughout the summer with the focus very much on raising the skills base of everyone that attends.
Taekwondo365: So what can people who attend the Excellence Tour expect?
Sarah: We'll be offering advice on motivation, inspiration and structured taekwondo training.
Taekwondo365: So who'll be offering the advice?
Sarah: I will be at all twelve sessions throughout the Summer, and I'll be working with some well know British coaches suches as Brian Tilly and Richard Allen and we'll also be having guest speakers along to talk about nuitrition and sports physcology. We also want to give honest appraisals of each individual and identify areas where they can go away in between sessions and work on their own perhaps on aspects of diet or fitness and also areas where they can work with their club coach on technical aspects of taekwondo.
Taekwondo365: So how will the Excellence Tour fit in with club coaches.
Sarah: Extremely well. The importance of the tour is to raise the standard of young taekwondo players throughout the country and help individuals to get the most out of the sport. I realise that not everyone who attends the tour will be a future World Champion, however, I'm positive that everyone who attends the tour will leave with a far more focussed attitude towards their training and their own personal goals.
Taekwondo365: So where will the Tour be visiting?
Sarah: We'll be visiting London, Manchester, Doncaster and Newcastle.
Taekwondo365: How can we find out more about the Tour?
Sarah: My new website - has all the details.
Taekwondo365: So how do people get involved, can they just turn up on the day?
Sarah: Sadly no, anyone wishing to attend will need to complete an application form and send it to me before the end of April. This will enable me to ensure that the the facilities are set up for the correct number of people and that eveyone knows exactly what they need to bring.
Taekwondo365: What age group is the tour aimed at?
Sarah: Ideally, anyone attending the tour should be aged between 12 and 17, however, there is some flexibility.
Taekwondo365: Can friends and family watch.
Sarah: Because the tour is all about taking the next step in terms of their development and I need 100% focus from everyone who attends the tour, spectators will not be allowed.
Taekwondo365: It sounds an excellent project Sarah, and we wish you all the best with it, and hopefully you'll report back to us later in the year?
Sarah: Thank you, and yes, I'll definately keep people updated on what's happening.
