All Stars Taekwondo is run by 6th degree black belt Master Gary Sykes and the academy stretches from the depths of Doncaster and Barnsley to the wilds of Wakefield, Leeds and Dewsbury, but it hasn't always been that way as you will discover. Master Sykes started out teaching a small group of pupils each Sunday morning in a small run down Scout hut in Doncaster where some of the most influential names in English, and eventually, International Taekwondo evolved. Peter Adamson, Kathy Barlow (then Walker) and Wayne Green all started their careers in that little scout hut back in the early 1980's.

As the club spread and grew in size so did it's reputation across the area and quickly the numbers began to grow. Master Sykes and his team began to dominate the area of Doncaster and by the mid 1980's Master Sykes had clubs in Hyde Park, Cantley, Bessacarr, Wheatley and Intake, with the assistance of a large team of home trained black belt instructors working alongside him.

1988 was to see Master Sykes' first involvement with the Olympic Games as he was appointed the coaching position to the
GBR squad in Seoul, South Korea and he has never looked back since. By the early 1990's the club had earned an
unprecedented reputation for success on the full contact sports fighting scene across the country, however, it was in the mid
1990's when the club made their presence felt on the international scene, where his team of fighters became regulars at
events all over Europe.

This undoubtedly formed the platform and experience for some of the more successful fighters to work from, which include,
Olympic Bronze medallist Amanda Broadbent, Olympian Kathy Walker (now Barlow), and more famously World, European
and Commonwealth Champion Sarah Stevenson, who recently won Bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Putting aside Master Sykes' appearances in the Mid 70's to early 80's in the GBR Taekwondo squad, including the World and
European championships in Ecuador and Holland, and his own national and international gold medals and trophies, it could
arguably be said that his greatest Taekwondo success' have come as both a club coach and national coach. Master Sykes has managed to introduce an unprecedented number of people to Taekwondo in his 30+ year career. A substantial number of these went on to become English champions. Names such as Adele Deakes, Clare Deakes, Peter Adamson, Kathy Walker (Barlow), Wayne Green, Cheryl Anderson, Dave Baugh, Sara Boughen, Sara Stevenson, Amanda Broadbent, Darren Coleman....and many more all owe their success to master Sykes and his teachings. Kathy Walker (Barlow), Peter Adamson, Wayne Green all went on to start their very own academy's in and around the South Yorkshire areas. They in turn produced a whole host of black belt instructors. And so due to Master Sykes introducing Taekwondo to South Yorkshire in the early 80's it has grown into the popular sport that we know and enjoy today.
